Former IEBC Commissioner Dr Roselyn Akombe has condemned the nomination of her three former colleagues for plum ambassadorial jobs abroad.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua announced that President Uhuru Kenyatta had nominated; Margaret Mwachanya, Connie Nkatha and Paul Kurgat as deputy head of mission to Islamabad, Pakistan, Moscow, Russia and Rome, Italy respectively.

The nominations caused uproar among Kenyans with most questioning the criteria used to nominate the three considering that they have questionable integrity.

The three are accused of being part of the team that oversaw the nullified 2017 presidential election.

Akombe’s take

Reacting to the nomination, Akombe termed it a disgrace to the Kenyan nation.

She noted that having travelled abroad, she has seen how Kenyan diplomats work hard to protect the country’s interest and is disappointed that the three have been nominated for that noble role.

According to her, the three and other former IEBC colleagues “sold their souls for political expediency” and as such, do not deserve those posts.

“I have worked with some of the finest career foreign service staff of @ForeignOfficeKE; seen them first hand defend #Kenya & Africa’s interests. And I have seen first hand how these  @IEBCKenya colleagues and others sold their souls for political expediency. Disgraceful indeed,” she tweeted.
