Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has opposed the idea of the former county bosses seeking re-election or contesting seats below the governorship.

A number of Governors who lost their seats in the 2017 general elections are plotting political comebacks in 2022.

Some of these governors include; Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), William Kabogo (Kiambu), Isaac Ruto (Bomet), Kinuthia Mbugua (Nakuru), and former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who is Eying the Homa Bay seat next year.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak panel today, June 8, 2021, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale objected the idea of the former county bosses seeking re-election or contesting seats below the governorship.

"Once you have reached the apex you do not step backward.

"I expect that when a governor loses an election, it is politically hygienic to run for President or disappear altogether," Khalwale stated.

The former senator argued that after a politician loses an election he is of no value to members of the public by seeking a lower seat.

Khalwale further argued it is worse when the losers return to contest in other counties.

Thirdway Alliance secretary-general Fred Okang'o seconded Khalwale's sentiments, noting that it is wrong for politicians to "transfer a loss to another county."
