  • Businessman Chris Kirubi is dead, his family confirms.

Businessman Dr Chris Kirubi who is also the Chairman of Capital Group Limited is dead, the family has confirmed.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Christopher J. Kirubi (1941-2021) who passed away today, Monday the 14thof June 2021 at 1 pm at his home after a long battle with cancer fought with fortitude, grace and courage. He was surrounded by his family," a statement sent to newsrooms read.

Dr. Kirubi is succeeded by his two children, Robert Kirubi and Mary-Ann Musangi.

In 2020 Dr. Kirubi opened up on his battle against cancer and the lessons he has picked up during his recovery.

Dr. Kirubi Kirubi spoke candidly on his health battle stating the struggles had made him recognise that health is a personal battle that requires individual effort while recognizing the power of prayers from friends and family.

“One thing I’ve come to discover is that in the end, you’re alone. Your friends may love you but eventually, you have to deal with your sickness personally,” he said.

Dr. Kirubi noted that he had also come to appreciate the value of quality healthcare systems – saying it was likely that he would be dead had he sought local treatment.

“I was just wondering what we can do to make sure, in a country like Kenya, everybody receives the best treatment possible…to tell you the truth, if I had been here maybe by now I would be long gone,” he added.

The businessman further encouraged Kenyans to seek medical help and go for cancer screening while explaining that the battle against cancer was close to him.

In a message to investors posted on Capital FM’s YouTube page, the Capital Group Ltd Chairman said that he cannot meet people as his immune system is weak, making him vulnerable to diseases.

“I am not coming to the meeting this morning because my immune system is weak and it is easy for me to pick up germs from a huge crowd. But I miss you and may God help you,” he said.

Condolence messages from the public have been pouring in:
