Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has defended himself after a video showing him slapping contractor cum musician Stephen Masinde alias Steve Kay went viral.

The lawmaker, who is on a whirlwind tour of his constituency, spoke of the 'slapping' incident as he launched another set of classes at Namasanda Primary School.

"Kwa vile ni rafiki yangu nikaona nikama alienda kujisaidia na alikua hajafunga zip. Mimi naona gari yake ndogo iko ndani hajafunga nikasema wacha nikimbie nimwambie garage yake iko empty funga duka. Sasa wakati nilienda kumuambia hivo akatoroka mbio akafikiria naenda kumpiga," MP Barasa claimed.

He went on to insist that the contractor had no right to lock the classes saying that only the president, the Cabinet Secretary for education and the courts close schools.

The lawmaker's version of the events is completely different from what was captured on tape by journalists who were present during the standoff at Lurare Baptist Primary School.

The Tangatanga allied MP had visited the school on Friday where he was set to commission 5 classes refurbished by Steve Kay and his partner Ronald Graham Wafula.

The ceremony was delayed after Steve Kay refused to unlock the classes demanding their Ksh 3.4 million pay for the job.

With tempers flaring, MP Didmus Baraza is captured on video slapping Steve Kay.

The musician/contractor sought treatment at a nearby hospital and the matter was reported at Kimilili Police Station.
