Eight people have been reported dead after a crane crumbled at a construction site in Kilimani, Nairobi on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

The incident is said to have occurred in the Hurlingham area opposite the Department of Defence headquarters.

Reports indicate that the construction site was for the proposed Qwetu Residences. The building is said to be 14 floors and can accommodate 700 residences.

People were evacuated from the site following the incident as police officers and rescue teams continue to search for others.

Kilimani police boss Andrew Muturi has stated that the number of casualties is likely to rise.

Two people are said to have been injured from the incident and rushed to hospital.

Reports indicate  that the workers had completed work and were dismantling the machine when it crumbled from about 70 metres.

A carpenter at the site told the media that they were almost breaking for lunch when the incident happened. One worker was left hanging for a while before he fell down.
