  • The A&L hotel based in Machakos was named after the two power couples, where ‘A’ refers to Alfred while ‘L’ refers to Lillian.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he has no plans of renaming his prestigious A&L hotel after separation with his wife Lillian Nganga.

The A&L hotel based in Machakos was named after the two power couples, where ‘A’ refers to Alfred while ‘L’ refers to Lillian.

Following their public break-up, there has been speculation that the governor could rename the hotel, but he insists that A&L is a product of the love between him and Lillian; therefore, he will not rename it.

He equated it to a baby, noting that when couples divorce, they never change the names of their babies.

“There were concerns about what would happen to the name of the hotel we built together, and which we named A&L Hotel (Alfred & Lillian Hotel). But why would I change the name now? This is still our hotel. It is our baby. When parents divorce, do they deny their babies the right to use the names on the birth certificates?” Mutua said in an article published by Nation.

The A&L hotel was officially opened on July 24, 2020, and has been operational for slightly over one year.

Governor Mutua and Lillian announced their separation over a week ago, with Lillian noting that she ended the relationship over two months ago.

While announcing the separation, Lillian also noted that she had stepped down from being the County First Lady.

“The only constant in life is change and we must be present and aware to appreciate and embrace it. Winds of change blew my way and two months ago, I decided to end the long term relationship with Dr Alfred Mutua.

"With this, I put down the Machakos First Lady cap - and what an honor it has been to be of service. I will continue to do my projects close to my heart, charity work etc through the 'Lilian Nganga Foundation' as this has always been formed who i am as a person,” she said.

Reacting to Lillian’s statement, Governor Mutua confirmed that they had agreed to separate and end their relationship two months ago.

The Machakos Governor added that they would remain close friends with Ms. Nganga adding that she will remain a close advisor.

"There is a song by Roger Whittaker that has the line: “the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye. Lillian and I have been a blessing to each other. Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are in amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly,” he said.

As a sign that the couple is still in good terms despite breaking-up, Lillian attended Mutua’s birthday party last week, with the governor insisting that it was her idea to have the party.
