Over the past week; Janet Memusi, a grade five student at Olalchani Primary School in Trans-mara West Sub-county was a subject of discussion after her photo reading while herding cattle went viral online.

The photo elicited massive reactions with netizens sharing messages of encouragement, while others requested for the creation of an online funds drive to aid her education.

The girl’s story touched Police Commissioner Francis Kooli, who’s also the Kisii County Commander pushing him to visit the girl.

Mr Kooli reportedly offered to support Memusi’s academic journey and even visited her school to catch up with her teachers and get to know more about the girl.

“This reached Mr. Francis Kooli, a Commissioner of Police and the County Commander Kisii. Touched by the little girl's thirst for knowledge, the County boss organized a visit to ascertain the child's well-being and to support her academic journey.

“Her teachers reported that she is a disciplined and hardworking girl whose efforts have paid off in her performance in school. Janet's gesture is a boost to the girl child education campaign in the area where indices of girls' enrolment in school have improved lately,” a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) read in part.

NPS used to the incident to remind Kenyans that it is a stakeholder in community matters, adding that it has elaborate community policing programs that complement the Children's Department to ensure the best interests of children are always upheld.
