According to the school principal, one student sneaked back and torched one cubicle which houses twenty students. 

Fifty students have been hospitalized after a fire broke out at Ofafa Jericho School on Monday, September 20, 2021. 

Reports indicate that over 35 students were rushed to Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu while others were taken to MP Shah and Nairobi women's hospital. 

Addressing the press, Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe, the CEO of Metropolitan, told the press that the boys had mild to moderate injuries mainly to the lungs because they had inhaled smoke while they tried to put out the fire.

Dr. Gakombe added that no student had suffered external injuries. 

"We received 35 boys at Metropolitan hospital but we've been told they are more. All the boys are safe and are receiving medical attention They are in stable condition. Some students have been moved to MP Shah, Nairobi Women’s hospital, and Avenue hospital," Dr. Gakombe said. 

The school principal Mr. Julius Linge told the police that while mobilizing students to attend evening preps, a section defied and remained within the dormitory. 

This prompted the teacher on duty to force them out, one student sneaked back and torched one cubicle which houses twenty students.
