Over the last couple of years, there have been numerous reported cases of revellers in Nairobi clubs waking up the following morning, or hours later to find they have been robbed of all their possessions.

What's worse is that the victims often never remember what transpired. The last thing one recounts is purchasing his or her favourite drink.

On Friday, October 15, 2021, Kasarani Sub-county Police Commander (SCPC) Peter Mwanzo listed 18 clubs and notified their owners of the rampant cases of Kenyans being drugged and robbed at the joints.

Mwanzo summoned the owners to Kasarani police station for a meeting following the rising cases of revellers being drugged and robbed in their clubs over the recent months.

Speaking to a local daily, the police boss revealed that he had urged the bar owners to increase security around their premises or risk being charged for abetting the offences that in some cases, turn fatal.

Mwanzo issued a warning to the club owners, stating that will be held accountable for any case of spiking reported in their joint.

He further urged them to install CCTV cameras in key spots of the clubs to help in nabbing the culprits.

“I have warned them if a reveller reports that they were stupefied at one of the establishments, the owner will also be charged because they should know what is happening at their places of business,” he was quoted as saying.

Mwanzo urged the club owners to hire waiters with integrity for some have been known to work with criminals in robbing patrons.

He also called upon them to invest in bouncers and security guards who will keep an eye on fishy revellers and restrain drunk patrons from going home with strangers who may in turn rob them.
