A 55-year-old man from West Aembo, Siaya County killed himself on Thursday, November 11, 2021, after his kin failed to settle a Ksh13,000 medical bill for his sick daughter.

According to a report by Citizen Digital on Friday, November 12, 2021, the deceased, since identified as Alfred Owuor Oyoo, committed suicide after his relative failed to honour a promise of clearing the medical build at the last minute.

West Asembo chief Wycliffe Odiango while confirming the incident, revealed that a neighbour found Owuor's body dangling from a tree, moments after he had been informed that the relative would not pay the bill.


Odiango Further revealed that Owuor had been living alone after separating from his wife who currently stays with his daughter.

His daughter suddenly fell ill and was admitted to Bondo Sub- County Hospital hence the Ksh13,000 hospital bill.

The deceased’s body has since been moved to Madiany Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem as investigations into the matter continue. 

The incident has since left the family stricken by sorrow, especially at a time when they continue to battle the daughter's sickness.
