The law states all public officers intending to vie in the polls must tender their resignation with IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati. 

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has fired two of his County Executive Committee (CECs) members who had been appointed by his predecessor Dr. Wahome Gakuru. 

One of the two CECs was fired while the other who served as the acting CEC of planning and health dockets stepped down from the county government. 

Speaking on Wednesday, January 5, the county boss also issued a warning to county officers who are engaging in politics, asking them to step down by February.  

“Anyone in government who wants to leave should write to the county now so as they are able to do so by February as the law requires," said Kahiga.

Kahiga dismissed claims that the move was political, arguing that he wanted to ensure that smooth operations as the country enters the election period. 

“The health docket that has been a thorn on the county government's flesh will be headed by the acting Finance CECM, Robert Thuo 

“Education CECM Margaret Macharia will head the lands and planning department on an acting capacity,” Kahiga added.
