The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed the date for the official kick-off of campaigns ahead of the General Elections.  

In a gazette notice, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced that the campaign period ahead of the General Election shall commence on May 29, 2022, and run until August 6, 2022. 

"The campaign period for purposes of the 9th August 2022 General Election shall commence on Sunday, 29th May 2022 and cease on Saturday, 6th August 2022 being 48 hours before the General Election Day," read the gazette notice.  

The campaign time shall run from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm during the campaign period. 

IEBC gazetted August 9 as the date for the general election, further pointing out that political Parties shall submit the Party Membership lists to the Commission before April 9, 2022.

The Commission also noted that political parties intending to present a candidate in the Presidential election shall submit the names of persons contesting in the party primaries, the date, and venues of the primaries 21 days before the nomination day.

The Commission also pointed out that public officers who intend to contest in the General Election shall resign from public office before February 9, 2022.
