There was a huge traffic snarl-up along the Mai Mahiu Road on Sunday after a truck ferrying gas cylinders exploded at Mutarakwa area.

Videos and images seen by this journalist showed the truck engulfed in fire with several cars burnt. 

Reports indicate that the truck got into an accident on Sunday morning.

However, as the efforts were ongoing to remove it from the Mutarakwa section of the road on Sunday afternoon it exploded. 

Police officers were swift in responding to the incident as they managed to move motorists away from the area.

Senator Kipchumba Murkoment was among the first people to share videos and images of the scene with huge billows of smoke seen in the air. 

"Something burning along the Mai Mahiu road. Looks like an explosion of a fuel tanker. Drive safe," Murkomen sated. 

By the time of publishing this story, no casualties had been reported.
