COTU boss Francis Atwoli took issue with Malala for disrespecting him despite funding his campaigns to join the Senate after serving as a Member of County Assembly (MCA).

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has claimed that he solely financed Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala's campaigns in 2016.

Speaking in Khwisero, the COTU boss took issue with Malala for disrespecting him despite funding his campaigns to join the Senate after serving as a Member of County Assembly (MCA).

As a result, Atwoli put a curse on Malala stating that if indeed he helped him clinch the Kakamega senatorial seat in the 2017 General Elections, he will never lead again in future.

"Huyu mtoto anaitwa Malala mimi ndio nilimpa kiti mwaka wa 2016. Yule Malala amepotea na anataka jina yangu, sijakunywa chai kwa nyumba yao, sijakula kwao, sijakula kwake. Yeye amekula kwangu, ametumia pesa zangu kuwa Senator, alitumia mali yangu kuwa Senator

"Nasema leo nikiwa nyumbani Khwisero, hili jua tulipewa bure siai bure, kama yeue hakukula kwa hii mikono achaguliwe, kama alikula kwa hii mikono yangu asiwe kitu chochote katika Republic of Kenya," Atwoli said amid cheers from the crowd.

In December 2021, Malala and Atwoli engaged in a heated war of words after the Senator threatened to stop a planned Luhya's meeting at the Bukhungu stadium.

“Kakamega is my bedroom. I want to tell them that unless they get a permit from Musalia, let them not step to Kakamega on December 31… I want to officially say that there will be no meeting at Bukhungu stadium on the 31,” Malala said.

Through his Twitter, Atwoli fired back stating; "You are a junior Senator who has neither the capacity to speak on behalf of the Luhya community nor the ability to call on and off such a meeting."
