On Monday, February 22, the DCI summoned Wanjigi over alleged illegal possession of weapons.

Businessman and presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi has stated that he will not surrender to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as ordered.

On Monday, February 22, the DCI summoned Wanjigi over alleged illegal possession of weapons.

Wanjigi has since reacted to the summoning accusing the DCI of abusing his fundamental rights, further stating that the alleged illegal firearms are non-existent.

"The DCI ordered me to surrender 10 non-existence guns and 480 bullets. They have been maliciously violating my fundamental rights and freedom. I will not surrender to this abuse of law enforcement agencies for political purposes," he said.

Wanjigi reacted to the summon while speaking to the press outside his Kwacha offices.

In a statement on Monday, Kuria Obadiah, a Superintendent of Police attached to the DCI’s serious Crime Unit, said the billionaire businessman is in possession of 10 illegal firearms and 485 rounds of ammunition.

"This criminal investigation has established that you hold 10 (10) Firearms of different makes and description as described below and which act of possession is in contravention of the Law as on 5th December 2018 the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr Fred Matiang’i," Kuria noted.

The DCI listed some of the firearms that Wanjigi is supposed to surrender as a Glock, Ceska pistol, Shotgun, Glock 19, CQ, and a Gilboa.

The presidential contender was summoned and directed to present himself to the DCI in 72 hours or be arrested.
