16 suspects in the sexual assault case of a female motorist along Forest Road will now spend 15 more days in police custody, the court has ruled.

In his ruling on Thursday, Milimani Principal Magistrate Robert Shikwe maintained that the matter was of public interest and police needed time to conclude investigations.

The magistrate said that the application by the prosecution to detain the 16 suspects for more days in court was merited.

The prosecution had on Monday sought for the 16 to be detained for 20 days to allow a thorough probe by police into the case.

This comes even as Police spokesperson Bruno Shiso on Monday said that 32 suspects had been apprehended by police with 12 motorcycles being impounded.

“When we began this show I mentioned that there were 16 arrested but by now the numbers have increased to 32, with now around 12 motorcycles impounded and it is just because of that outcry,” he stated.

There was a public outcry by Kenyans after the assault of the female motorist who is said to be a diplomat after her video went viral.

It caught the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who on Tuesday ordered the crackdown of all boda bodas in the country.
