NCIC vice chairperson Wambui Nyutu said that the commission had identified the areas in Kisumu, Kericho and Nandi Counties.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Friday listed hate speech hotspots in the country ahead of the August 9 polls.

At a press briefing, NCIC vice chairperson Wambui Nyutu said that the commission had identified the areas in Kisumu, Kericho and Nandi Counties.

The areas included Koguto which is located in Muhoroni-Kericho border, Londiani, Sondu, Bureti sub-county and Kosait Ward in Ainamoi sub-county.

Ms. Nyutu further named Nyagacho, an informal settlement in Kericho County, and Chebao area in Litein Ward as other hate speech hotspots. The commission said it will also monitor 36 social media accounts.

This comes even as NCIC revealed in the same press briefing that ODM leader Raila Odinga will appear before the commission over his ‘Madoadoa’ remarks that he made in Wajir County early in the month.

NCIC chairman Rev. Dr. Samwel Kobia, however, termed the former Prime Minister as a cooperative and law-abiding citizen after he publicly apologized for the remarks.

“We as NCIC have seen how cooperative the Rt Hon Raila Odinga is and I think he is a very law-abiding abiding Kenyan. I think it is a show of statesmanship that inspires his position and all that he has said. And as we say, he apologized publicly and he said once he comes back we’ll then have time with him,” the NCIC chairman remarked.
