The bandits raided homesteads in Koitilial Location, Marakwet West sub-county and stole over 100 animals.

Two people have been killed and six others wounded following a bandit attack in Elgeyo Marakwet on Sunday, March 20, 2022.

According to reports, the bandits raided homesteads in Koitilial Location, Marakwet West sub-county and stole over 100 animals.

Confirming the incident, area Deputy County Commissioner Mathias Chishiambo stated that the bandits were from the nearby Baringo County.

The police boss revealed that officers are trailing the bandits who crossed over into Baringo, while assuring that other officers had been deployed to heighten security in the area.

"We have sent more security officers to the area and they are restoring calm," Chishiambo said.

Marakwet West Member of Parliament William Kisang has criticised the rising incidents of banditry in the region while accusing security officers of laxity.

“We were promised heightened security during this time when students are sitting for the national examinations but unfortunately raids are ongoing,” Kisang told the Nation

"Some students, especially from day schools, might miss exams since they have fled the area with their parents."

According to reports, more than 80 people have died in the past six months in Elgeyo Marakwet, with several others injured.
