She termed the showcasing of bodies by female leaders during rallies and events as uncouth and unprofessional.

Murang'a County Woman Representative Sabina Chege has taken a swipe at female leaders who showcase or “gyrate their bodies” during rallies to woo supporters.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's JKLive, Sabina stated that women leaders in the country should focus on selling and delivering their agendas to the people.

“Our women don’t do that. We know which side of women who do that. I would not recommend it, it's uncouth. We are not there to show our bodies, we are there to show leadership,” Sabina said.

On the contrary, Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Boss Shollei during the same interview stated that she does not see anything wrong with female politicians dancing in public.

She argued that dancing is a form of cultural expressionism and therefores, Kenyans should not take everything that happens at rallies seriously especially the entertainment bits.

“I do appreciate that different cultures and communities have different traditions and behavioral modes. I don’t find it offensive if someone is dancing in a way that is culturally acceptable.

“If you referring to the dancing of Senator Omanga when she came to Uasin Gishu county, that is a dance from the community she comes from… The crowd was excited, it is a way I’d be excited to see a dance from a community that’s not ours,” Shollei said.

The issue of female leaders showcasing their bodies to the public hit the accelerator gear during the UDA National Delegates Congress (NDC) held at the Kasarani indoor arena.

During the NDC, leaders; Senator Millicent Omanga, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa, among others were dancing for the crowd, attracting mixed reactions from Kenyans.
