15 suspects who were arrested in connection with the attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s helicopter in Uasin Gishu County on April 1 have been released.

An Eldoret court on Wednesday, April 13 set free the fifteen after the prosecution found that they had no case to answer due to a lack of evidence.

The 15 were among 17 suspects who were arrested after the incident on April 1. However, two of the 17 suspects will remain in police custody and will face charges.

The lawyer representing the suspects, Titus Bitok, said that his clients had been illegally detained.

Among the charges that were earlier pressed against the suspects were attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and incitement to violence.

The prosecution had requested that the seventeen be detained for 14 days to help the police conclude investigations into the incident.

However, the court last week ruled that they be detained for seven days. Upon the release of the 15, their families thanked the court for delivering justice.

The former Prime Minister experienced the unfortunate incident after he went to attend the burial of the late Mzee Jackson Kibor in Uasin Gishu County on Friday, April 1.

His chopper was pelted with stones from a group of youth who charged at the ODM leader. Two MPs from the region and those who accompanied Raila to the burial have since recorded statements with DCI.
