Top foreign leaders are expected to grace Mwai Kibaki's State funeral on Friday, April 29.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a list of foreign leaders expected to attend the late former President Mwai Kibaki's State funeral on Friday, April 29.

Among the top African leaders on the list are South Sudan's President Salva Kiir, South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa and Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work.

Others are as follows:

1. Former Malawi President Joyce Banda

2. Tanzania Vice-President Philip Mpango

3. Uganda Vice-President Jessica Alupo

4. Rwanda Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente

5. Zimbabwe Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga

6. South Sudan's Foreign Affairs Minister Mayiik Ayii Deng

7. South Africa's Foreign Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor

8. Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland

9. Sri Lanka’s Special Envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake

On Wednesday, Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i revealed that the plans for the state funeral are complete.

Matiang'i stated that the state is ready to begin the process of laying the former President to rest.

He added that all Kenyans who wish to attend the state funeral will be expected to be seated by 8:00 am at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“We want to start early so that those who have to travel out of town are able to return to their homes early enough. The programme will commence at 8:00 am,” Matiang’i stated.

Matiang'i said that on Saturday, April 30, the body of Kibaki would be transported by road to Othaya Constituency in Nyeri County for another service before the late President is laid to rest.
