The Roots Party leader's papers were rejected by IEBC.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, May 30, declined to register Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah as a presidential candidate.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Wajackoyah failed to raise the requisite 2,000 signatures per county in at least 24 counties.

The Roots Party leader had only complied with the required signatures in 17 counties, missing out in 7 counties.

However, IEBC gave Prof. Wajackoyah until Thursday, June 2 to get his house in order before presenting his papers again.

The presidential hopeful joined other aspirants at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday for a date with the IEBC for clearance to vie in the August 9 polls.

Meanwhile, IEBC on Monday barred musician Reuben Kigame from vying for the presidency.

Kigame, who was vying as an independent candidate, said he received an email from Chebukati informing him of the decision to lock him out of the presidential contest.

The musician said that the IEBC chair had told him on Sunday night that he did not meet the minimum requirements.

His efforts to meet Chebukati on Monday were futile, as he said he was told that no aspirant was allowed in the Bomas of Kenya.

"When I wanted to seek audience with the Chair and have a redress of this matter, security barred me from entering the Bomas of Kenya saying no aspirant was being allowed," Kigame told the press.
