President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly signalled the start of the impeachment motion against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Reports have indicated that Uhuru made a phone call to Jubilee leadership directing them to coordinate with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

President Kenyatta was reportedly angered by Sonko's constant attacks and lack of cooperation with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

"The reason we were given to initiate the motion was Sonko's refusal to work with NMS boss Mohammed Badi and his constant abuse of the president," a Jubilee MCA was quoted by a local daily.

On Thursday, it emerged that 86 MCAs had appended their signatures to the motion, surpassing the threshold required to table a notice of impeachment motion.

MCAs allied to Governor Sonko had said the plot to impeach the county boss is over his refusal to assent to the bill on the Sh37.5 billion 2020-21 budget.

In February, a court saved Sonko from impeachment after he was accused of a litany of misdeeds, including abuse of office and financial mismanagement.
