The CS has revealed the order by the President that accelerated the completion of Nairobi Expressway.

Interior CS Dr. Fred Mataing’i has said that an executive order issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta accelerated the completion of many government projects including the Nairobi Expressway.

Speaking on Friday, June 3, the CS stated the Executive Order No. 1 of 2019 by President Kenyatta cut off the bureaucracy that hindered government projects.

“Executive Order No 1 of 2019 issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta that created the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee (NDICCC) and other decentralised committees, cut out the bureaucracy that hampered projects' progress.

“The reason why you have seen accelerated work happening in the last four years coordinated by NDICCC is that all of us as Cabinet Ministers sitting in an interagency manner cut down the bureaucratic bottlenecks down to zero,” Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’i, who had been appointed the chairman of the NDICCC, said that when President Kenyatta created the NDICCC, he pointed that the greatest enemy to implementation of government projects was bureaucracy.

According to Matiang’i, a review by the UN detailed that the Nairobi Expressway could have taken four years to be completed due to bureaucratic challenges.

However, the CS said that he was proud to be part of the fast implementation of the government projects in the last four years as the chairman of NDICCC.
