  • Martha Karua has been awarded Ksh2.7 million in a case involving Governor Anne Waiguru
  • A regional court made the decision on Monday, indicating that Ms Karua's rights were violated

Former Kirinyaga Gubernatorial candidate Martha Karua, on Monday, November 30, won Ksh2.7 million in a case involving Governor Anne Waiguru.

The former Minister had moved to East African Court of Justice in Arusha, Tanzania after she lost her case at the Supreme Court of Kenya in 2019.

Ms Karua was awarded the funds in damages for violation of her right to fair hearing in the petition.

The East Africa Court of Justice Registrar Yufnalis Okubo said the judgement will be delivered by a three-judge bench of the First Instance Division on November 30.

Ms Karua claimed the Attorney General through the Supreme Court, violated her right to a fair trial and access to substantive justice and in so doing, the government failed to abide by its own Constitution.

She also claims the government failed in its commitment to the fundamental and operational principles of the East African Community and to uphold its obligation under various international, continental and regional treaties that bind it.
