Azimio has written to IEBC over the failure of KIEMS kits in many polling stations across the country.

Raila Odinga's presidential campaign secretariat has written to the IEBC Chairman Wafula over the cases of failure of KIEMS kits to identify voters in many polling stations across the country.

In a letter by Raila’s chief legal adviser lawyer Paul Mwangi on Tuesday, the secretariat stated that the failures were occurring at the stronghold of the Azimio presidential candidate.

“The Raila Odinga presidential campaign is appalled by the large number of KIEMS kits that have failed since today morning all over the country despite the numerous statements of comfort from you (Chebukati) personally that the technology will not fail on voting day.

“The campaign is also appalled that the vast majority of these failures are occurring in the strongholds of Raila Odinga,” read part of the letter by Paul Mwangi.

The Raila presidential campaign demanded that Chebukati issues a public clarification that the manual register shall be used in the event of the failure of the KIEMS kits in accordance to a ruling by the Court of Appeal.

It further demanded that Chebukati announces the number of polling stations that are yet to begin the exercise of voting due to the failure of the kits.

Mwangi in the letter also demanded that the IEBC chair announces an extension of voting time in polling stations that experienced the technical hitch on KIEMS kits.

“We hope IEBC will stop treating this issue of the use of the complimentary system of voting in a cavalier manner it has done so far despite our warning and protestation,” Mwangi stated.
