The Silence of President Uhuru Kenyatta following the announcement of William Ruto as President-elect is worrying, Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Gachagua who was speaking to Kass Fm on Wednesday said they are concerned that the President has chosen to remain silent at a time when the nation needed to hear his word.

Gachagua told the president that even though he is not willing to congratulate his deputy for the win, he should at least address the nation.

He said his silence will not affect Ruto's swearing-in adding that it is not a must that he be present.

He cited the case of the US where former president Donald Trump who was defeated gave a wide berth to the swearing-in ceremony of incoming leader Joe Biden.

"What is only required during the swearing-in ceremony is the presence of the Chief Justice, it is not even that sword, that is just ceremonial," said the outgoing Mathira MP.

He, however, asked the President to be a gentleman and at least recognize the fact that his deputy has been elected president.

Ruto's swearing-in however will be determined by the verdict of the Supreme court. Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has vowed to challenge the results at the Supreme court.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes against Odinga's 6,942,930.
