In one year, exports from Kenya to Tanzania grew from Sh31 billion to Sh45 billion - President Ruto.

President William Ruto has disclosed that trade between Kenya and Tanzania has grown exponentially between the two countries.

Speaking in Tanzania on Monday, October 10, Ruto stated that he would build on the good relations between the two countries laid by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta and his Tanzania counterpart Samia Suluhu.

Highlighting the growth, the Head of State disclosed that trade of goods from Tanzania to Kenya grew from Sh27 billion to Sh50 billion.

"In one year, exports from Kenya to Tanzania grew from Sh31 billion to Sh45 billion, trade of goods from Tanzania to Kenya grew from Sh27 billion to Sh50 billion. We are happy that the old feeling that Kenya was benefiting more than Tanzania from trade has now changed," Ruto said.

At the same time, Kenya agreed to work with Tanzania to eliminate barriers to cross-border trade.

President Ruto mentioned that he had agreed with President Samia Suluhu Hassan on a plan that will spur commerce between the two countries.

He noted that a borderless East African Community (EAC) will foster free movement of goods and services, thereby unlocking the bloc’s economic potential.

The two countries also agreed to start working on a gas pipeline from Dar es Salaam to Mombasa and later reroute to Nairobi.

President Suluhu said respective technocrats have been directed to start working on the implementation of the gas project.
