First Lady Rachel Ruto has penned a strong message as Kenyans celebrate Mashujaa Day.

Kenyans on Thursday, October 20, morning made their way to Uhuru Gardens in numbers to celebrate Mashujaa day.

Here is the message by the First Lady;

'Our children may learn about heroes of the past. Our task is to make ourselves the architects of the future.'

~ Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The recognition, appreciation and celebration of great and iconic Kenyans who have and continue to raise our national flag up the global mast is the essence of our Mashujaa Day.

Even as we commit to clear new paths for the posterity, we must teach the young the history of our nation so that they too can emulate and take pride in the acts of courage, resilience and dedication of our early champions. We must belabour, as a people, to build on their legacies and continue in the good work they started.

First Lady Rachel Ruto

It is said, 'heroes and heroines are made by the paths they choose, not the power they are graced with'. In our daily lives, the spirit of our National Heroes find expression through our words and deeds.

In a special way, today, as we celebrate this 2022 Mashujaa Day, I would wish to acknowledge the contribution of the girls and women of Kenya in nation building. Throughout history and around the world, women have had immense influence on the development of societies.

Even as they devote themselves for the growth of these societies, women have been met by a lot of setbacks. Some natural, others man-made. Literally. And, the Kenyan woman is not an exception. Juggling between work and family, the Kenyan woman has continued to fight for equality, social justice, women's rights and positions of leadership.

Girls with dreams become women with vision. May we grow to be the Champions of Change.
