“We want to create an experience of hardworking Kenyans like John Ochieng', who is present here as one of my guests," President William Ruto.

President William Ruto on Thursday, October 20, took a moment to recognize an ordinary Kenyan home owner who he said was one of his guests.

Speaking while delivering his Mashujaa Day speech at Uhuru Gardens, Ruto said that John Ochieng's journey to owning a home through the affordable housing scheme was a dream two years ago.

The Head of State said that he met Ochieng' in Ongata Rongai while handing keys to new home owners under the affordable housing plan.

President Ruto said Ochieng' was a carpenter when the scheme was rolled out two years ago and he has since become a home owner.

“We want to create an experience of hardworking Kenyans like John Ochieng', who is present here as one of my guests. I met him two days ago when I handed over keys to new home owners in Ongata Rongai under the affordable housing scheme," President Ruto said.

“Ochieng’ began working as a carpenter in that housing project when it began two years ago. Then, home ownership to him was a mere dream. Two years later, he owns an apartment in the same estate he helped to build as a carpenter,” he added.

The Head of State said that he was convinced that it was possible to provide quality and affordable housing for rent and sale.

He further maintained that his administration will provide quality housing that Kenayans can buy with mortgages for as low as Sh5000 a month.

“We therefore proceed with confidence that we will provide quality climate-smart housing that Kenyans can buy with mortgages for as low as Sh5000 a month to be made available various home financing arrangements,” the president said.
