President William Ruto has assumed a new role that was previously held by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

President William Ruto was on Tuesday, November 1, installed as the patron of the Kenya Red Cross Society at State House, Nairobi.

In a statement, KRCS stated that it was honored to install the Head of State as its fifth patron in line with the tradition of having a president as its patron.

"This morning Kenya Red Cross Society was honoured to install H.E President William Ruto as its Patron at a ceremony held at State House Nairobi. H.E William Ruto becomes the 5th Patron of Kenya Red Cross, in line with its tradition of having the head of state as a patron," the KRCS stated.

Speaking after taking over the role, President Ruto said that he did not take the role for granted adding that he was aware of what was awaiting him.

"I am aware that this patronage is traditionally conferred to the Head of State. Nevertheless, I do not take it for granted and I want you to know that I am aware of the magnitude of this role and I am proud to be associated with you," he stated.

The Head of State commended the members and volunteers of the society for their service to the community.

He added that the society must build a strong and expanded collaboration to encompass response to climate change in its operations.

"The Kenya Red Cross Society must build strong, expanded and productive collaboration that will encompass response to climate change in its operations. That way, it will help mitigate the adverse effects of a changing environment and build resilience in our communities," the President stated.
