Passengers seeking to travel to various parts of the World on Saturday morning were treated to a rude shock after they came to terms with the cancellations of their flights.

This is after the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (Kalpa) embarked on their strike despite the court terming it illegal.

At the centre of the strike is the Suspended provident fund. The association said they would not resume operations until the fund is reinstated.

The strike saw several scheduled flights cancelled.

Kenya Airways in a statement Saturday morning asked travellers to stop contacting them if their travels are not within 48 hours.

The company said they had received numerous calls since the strike by the KALPA was announced.

"Due to the ongoing unlawful industrial action by Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA), we are experiencing high call volumes at our customer excellence Centre. Kindly contact us if you are travelling within 48 hours. Kindly accept our apologies for the inconvenience," the statement directing them to contact them via email,

On Friday,  the airline indicated the industrial action by pilots could see it lose at least $2.5 million close to (Sh300 million) every day.

A meeting convened to address the challenge and broker a deal on Friday failed to stop the strike despite the intervention of Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.
