"By the time we got to the hospital she was pronounced dead," Susan Mundia the school principal told the media.

The school located in Muranga has a penchant for taking its candidates to steamy sessions every year.

"We always have this activity every year to help them cool off from the pressure before they sit for KCSE," Mundia added.

Mundia clarified that the mother of the student was part of the trip from the school.

"We were with her even when we were trying to resuscitate the student. We are currently in the mortuary right now," she added.

The tragedy comes less than four weeks before the commencement of the Kenya certificate of secondary education examinations.

The exams have been scheduled to begin on November 28.
