The area education director said the candidate will still sit for her exams from the hospital.

A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidate in Tharaka Nithi county has given birth just hours before the start of exams.

The candidate who hails from the Tharaka constituency gave birth on Monday morning ahead of Monday's Mathematics papers.

The first paper is Mathematics.

She gave birth at the Marimanti Hospital.

Education Director Salecio Maringe, attached to the area, has said the candidate will continue to sit her exam from the hospital.

More than 3 million Standard Eight and Grade Six pupils students are prepared to sit the national exams this month.

Grade 6 has more than 1.6 million registered candidates for Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exam.

As it stands, primary schools will have two exam sections, for Standard 8 and Grade 6 pupils.

Standard 8 candidates will sit Mathematics, English language and Composition papers on Monday.

President William Ruto on Sunday night wished all candidates the best of luck ahead of their exams.

Ruto said it's time for them to showcase all the work they have put in over the years they have been in school.

"You have worked hard for years, it is time for you to crown that hard work with a strong display of knowledge and character. This is your moment, do your best for your future. I wish you all the best in your Grade 6 (KPSEA), KCPE and KCSE examinations," he tweeted.
