Mr. Ndegwa disclosed that a total of 42 million customers are registered on Mpesa. 

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa on Thursday, July 6 gave a glimpse of the total number of Mpesa users in Kenya during the Mpesa Super App Partners' Forum.  

Speaking during the event, Mr. Ndegwa disclosed that a total of 42 million customers are registered on Mpesa. 

In addition, the Safaricom CEO mentioned that the total monthly active Mpesa customers is 32 Million plus over 1 million merchants. 

"We have more than 20.5 million smartphones on our network compared to an overall customer base of 43.7 million customers. 14 million of these smartphones are 4G enabled, with our 4G network reaching more than 98% of the country’s population," Ndegwa stated.  


The Safaricom CEO also delved into the Mpesa Super App where he revealed that more than three million customers use the platform. 

"More than 3 million customers and 278,000 businesses use the M-PESA Super App and M-PESA Business App monthly, with more than 8 million customers downloading the M-PESA Super App," he said. 

Mr. Ndegwa added, "We have seen customers shifting to increasingly digital lifestyles. To demonstrate this shift, the number of businesses on Lipa Na M-PESA has more than quadrupled in three years, from 173,000 in April 2020 to more than 606,000 by April this year, an increase of more than 400,000 businesses." 

In Safaricom’s latest financial year to April 2023, the Super App processed 489 million transactions with a value of KSh. 1.3 trillion.
