Mount Kenya University (MKU) on Thursday, July 13 hosted the AI Hackathon event that marked a milestone in the university’s journey towards establishing an AI research center and preparations ahead of the IBM 2023 Call for Code Global Challenge.

The event brought together a diverse group of professionals, students, and technology enthusiasts who highlighted their creativity and expertise in using artificial intelligence to deal with real-world challenges.

MKU Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi in a statement expressed confidence that the institution will play a key role in shaping AI in the country and beyond.

"We are proud to host the AI Hackathon at MKU University, which serves as a testament to our commitment to empowering our students and the wider community with cutting-edge technology skills.

“The event showcased the incredible talent and potential that exists within our institution and our nation. During the event, participants formed teams and competed against each other to develop innovative solutions that can positively impact society. The event also provided the participants with an opportunity to develop technology skills and network with experts. 

The AI Hackathon event at the same time served as a prelude to MKU University's entry into the IBM 2023 Call for Code Global Challenge. 

The worldwide challenge invites developers to create sustainable technology solutions that address critical issues in modern society.
