The Azimio la Umoja coalition has announced that it will hold demonstrations on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week.

In a statement on Friday, July 14, Azimio stated the decision was arrived at following requests from all sectors across the country.

“Third Wave of peaceful protests scheduled to start on Wednesday next week, and following overwhelming requests from all sectors of the Kenyan Public for the need to intensify these demonstrations, the Coalition hereby wishes to announce a revision of the calendar.

“Going forward, the peaceful protests will now be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week, in line with requests from the public to include three days of activity,” the statement read.

The announcement comes after Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga said that the opposition will continue with the anti-government protests on Wednesday next week whether they are permitted or not.

"We will have countrywide protests next week on Wednesday whether the government likes it or not," said Raila.

The Azimio coalition noted that it was taking a five-day off from the protests to mourn Kenyans who lost their lives during Wednesday demonstrations.

"We have made a decision to observe five days of mourning and solidarity with the victims and their families during which we will try our level best to mobilize support to help lessen the burden on the families of victims," DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa stated.

President William Ruto while speaking on Thursday in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi County vowed to deal with Raila and his financiers over the protests that have seen several people losing their lives and properties of unknown value destroyed.

“I want to assure Kenyans that we will not allow the Handshake brothers to hold our country hostage by causing violence and bringing chaos so that they can stop us from educating our children, planning youth employment, and supporting our farmers to produce food so that we can get rid of the shame of hunger. They will not succeed. We will go hard on them,” said Ruto.
