Kenyans were unable to access M-Pesa services on Tuesday.  

Safaricom has restored the M-Pesa service after hours of downtime.

In a statement via X on Tuesday, January 9, Safaricom apologized to its customers for the inconveniences caused during the service outage.

“All M-PESA services are now available. We apologise for any inconveniences caused, and thank you for your patience as we worked to restore services,” Safaricom stated.

Kenyans experienced delays in transacting through M-Pesa at around 11:00 am on Tuesday.

M-Pesa customers were unable to access the service on the My Safaricom app, M-Pesa app, USSD code, and SIM card.

The users received a message indicating that M-Pesa was experiencing delays.

“MPESA is experiencing delays and is not able to accept your request. Please wait for 10 minutes before trying again,” the M-Pesa message read.

The outage also impacted banks who notified their customers of the delays and urged them to be patient.

Safaricom customer care while responding to Kenyans asking why the M-Pesa service was having delays, said they were facing a technical issue and were working to resolve it.
