Celebrated Kenyan media personality Maina Kageni has announced that he has absolutely no interest in joining politics.

Speaking on Tuesday during the Bonga na Jalas show, Maina noted that in the Kenyan political scene, one needs to be a subject of a political party in order to survive.

He further noted that unless you are an independent candidate, when you venture into politics, your ability to think independently is taken away, since you conform to your party’s ideology.

Maina also held the view that politics is an expensive affair, adding that it is one of the “fastest ways to go broke”.

“Politics is the fastest way to grow broke. The fact in Kenya is, you need to be on a big party ticket; which limits your thinking because your thinking must follow that of whoever is the party leader. You can never be Jalang’o the thinker in a big party,” he said.

He made reference to former journalist Mohammed Ali and former comedian John Kiarie who he says have failed to live up to expectations after being elected into Parliament.

“Look at Moha… Jicho pevu we hired that fiery guy to make noise in Parliament…Our friend KJ, but again he had to conform,” he divulged.

In view of the above, Maina suggested that joining politics was not part of his current or future plans.

On Jalango’s 2022 bid for Lang’ata constituency, Maina Kageni advised his colleague to vie as an independent candidate, adding that he’ll support him finically and also attend his rallies.

“Lang’ata is an urban constituency, you can do it. Run as an independent Jalang’o. I will give you money, I will be at your rallies…I’ll support you wewe hujui kudanganyana…Yes I will support you, go for it, I will endorse you,” Maina divulged.
