ANC has accused ODM of using threats of forming an alliance with Deputy President William Ruto to blackmail President Uhuru Kenyatta for an endorsement.

Musalia Mudavadi Led ANC is accusing the ODM Party of blackmailing President Uhuru Kenyatta into endorsing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in 2022.

ANC Chairperson Kelvin Lunani argued that the ODM's threat to form an alliance with Deputy President William Ruto in 2022 is a ploy to blackmailing the Head of State into backing Raila for the presidency next year.

He added that the recent meeting between DP Ruto and ODM Deputy Leader Wycliffe Oparanya was meant to strong-arm the president.

"Also self-evident is the party's duplicitous support for the handshake. It's apparent that ODM never believed in the BBI byproduct unless it serves their selfishness," Lunani stated.

In the past month or so, news headlines in the country have been filled with talk of a possible alliance between the DP's camp and the ODM party.

The rumours proceeded prior allegations of a potential betrayal and ODM leaders warned that they would have no choice but to abandon the handshake if they are betrayed.

Lunani accused ODM of "creating external enemies" as to ensure maximum commitment to the handshake from President Kenyatta and his camp.

He argued that ODM's recent theatrics involving the party presidential candidate is a ploy to indicate there is democracy in the party when the ticket is reserved for Raila.

"If this is not true why are they not going ahead with the two applicants who submitted their papers and instead want to extend the deadline to allow Raila to apply? Are they insinuating that Raila wasn't aware of the deadline?" Lunani added.

Talks of the possible alliance between the former pentagon members is said to have been the cause of President Kenyatta's night visit to Raila's home a week ago.
