Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has appointed Simon Gikuru as the party’s acting Secretary General one year after Barrack Muluka stepped down.

Gakuru was first unveiled in Meru where Mudavadi held a political engagement with the County Governor Kiraitu Murungi.

A statement from the party’s official Twitter account said the Mr Gakuru has what it takes to champion the ideals of the party and wished him well in the role.

“The Party Leader has named Simon Gakuru as the acting party Secretary-General. Mudavadi said the young Makerere-trained lawyer has what it takes to champion the party ideals to greater heights, as the ANC party, we congratulate Mr. Gakuru and wish him all the best,” said ANC.

His appointment comes about a year after the resignation of Barrack Muluka who served in the same capacity for almost three years.

Muluka was officially appointed as the ANC Secretary General in November 2017 through a gazette notice and took over from Godfrey Osotsi who had been nominated to the National Assembly.

In his resignation, Muluka said his exit would allow Mudavadi to give ANC a new lease of life.

"I doubt I could add more value to what I have done so far. Moreover, it is now fitting that the space around you should be de-congested. This will allow you to make critical decisions on the population and leadership under the new constitution," said Muluka.

His tenure as ANC SG was marred by fights as Osotsi insisted that he was still the official Secretary-General of the party.

The claims had caused division in the party with one faction supporting Osotsi while the other supported Muluka as SG.
