An autopsy conducted on the body of athlete Agnes Tirop has revealed that she died of stab wounds to the neck and blunt force injury inflicted on the head. 

The postmortem was carried out at the Iten County Referral Hospital on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, led by Dr. Dorothy Njeru. 

Olympian Tirop was found dead on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at her home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Ibrahim Rotich, Agnes' estranged husband and a prime suspect in the murder was arrested on Friday last week at Changamwe in Mombasa while allegedly trying to flee the country.

According to reports, Keiyo North Police Commander Tom Makori revealed that the husband called his parents and informed them that he had killed the athlete. He prayed for forgiveness.

Rotich was arraigned in court at Iten and was detained for a further 20 days as police expedite investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa further ordered that the suspect undergo a mental test.

Agnes will be laid to rest at her parent's home at Kapnyamisa Village in Mosoriot, Nandi County on Saturday, October 23.

The family of the slain Kenyan athlete said that her burial would cost Ksh5 million.
