The former Kakamega senator's comment did not go well with a section of netizens.

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has been met with the wrath of a section of netizens after a comment on the UDA party primaries.

The ex-lawmaker took to Twitter on Friday to express his gratitude to the Deputy President William Ruto-led party for conducting free and fair nominations.

He said that no party had ever conducted free and fair nominations since the country's independence.

"No other party has since Independence ever held free & fair nominations for elections in Kenya. Congratulations my @UDAKenya!," Khalwale tweeted.

However, his tweet was met with fury from a section of netizens who could not agree with the remarks by the ex-senator.

Khalwale's remarks came after DP Ruto on Thursday evening lauded the UDA nomination process despite a few logistical challenges.

"We had logistical issues that came up. But we are happy that in the midst of the fuel crisis UDA has managed to deliver this election," he said.

Khalwale was previously unveiled as the Kenya Kwanza Alliance candidate in the race for Kakamega senatorial seat.

He had shown ambitions for Kakamega County’s top seat but stepped down for Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.

"We have listened and agreed with them. Boni Khalwale has accepted to run for Senator for Kakamega county and ceded ground for Malala to run for Governor for Kakamega," the DP said at a briefing in Karen, Nairobi.
