Mutahi Ngunyi predicted that Ruto will elbow Raila out of the region perceived to be his political bedrock.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi now predicts that President William Ruto will grab the Western Kenya region from ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Raila has over the years enjoyed the support of the Western Kenya region that has backed him for the presidency the numerous times he vied

The analyst in a tweet said the President has fought similar battles in the past and won adding that he will equally beat Raila in winning the Western Kenya support base.

"Ruto wrestled the Kalenjin Nation from Mzee Moi. Did he succeed? Yes. Then he took the Gema Nation from Uhuru Kenyatta. Did he succeed? Yes. Now he wants to wrestle the Mulembe Nation from Raila. Will he succeed? Yes," he tweeted.

The tweet by Ngunyi comes even as the President has moved to appease the region by involving them in his government through key appointments.

Despite not delivering the 70 per cent as agreed in a deal with Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Speaker Moses Wetangula ahead of the 2022 polls, the president rewarded the region handsomely.

He gave Musalia the prime CS post and made the post the third most powerful job. He also honoured the deal to make Wetangula the National Assembly speaker.

He has also given the Western region two cabinet slots that of sports led by Ababu Namwamba and health led by Susan Nakhumicha.

Several Western Kenya leaders have also been appointed as PSs.

This, political pundits have argued, is a strategy to woo the region to his camp in preparation for the 2027 election.
