President William Ruto has announced that the government will soon remove all taxes on cooking gas.

Speaking on Friday, February 24 during the launch of Taifa Gas in Mombasa County, President Ruto stated that the move would give every Kenyan household access to cheap gas.

“Tutahakikisha ya kwamba bei ya gas itapungua kwa sababu tutaondoa ile kodi yote ambayo imewekwa kwa gas so that we make sure every household in the republic of Kenya has access to gas and we can eliminate the use of wood, eliminate the challenges of health and also restore our environment by reducing the number of trees that are being cut,” Ruto announced.

The Head of State directed Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria to make sure every Kenyan household has subsidized cooking gas in the next three years.

“Waziri you have the matching orders and you know what you must do so that in three years every household in Kenya has subsidised cooking gas,” Ruto stated.

He also directed the Trade and Industry Ministry to eliminate all illegal gas filling stations in the country.

“I want the Ministry to make sure that we eliminate all illegal gas filling stations in the country because it's dangerous,” Ruto directed.

He added, “Wale wakora wote ambao wanatumia mitunga yenye sio yao kuweka gas wajipange. Hatuwezi kukubali mtu haatarishe maisha ya wanachi kwa kwenda kufill gas na mtungi sio yake.”
