Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday, April 12 explained why a suspected bandit was rescued from Iten Referral Hospital despite police presence.
Kindiki, who was appearing before the National Assembly, stated that the suspect came to seek medical help in the facility but could not explain how he was shot.
The Interior CS explained that the officers in the hospital failed to avert his rescue after their commander determined that a shootout with the suspect bandits could have caused casualties in the hospital.
“The person involved is a suspected bandit because he has bullet wounds and he could not explain where he shot. We believe that the people who came to rescue him were criminals because they came through the fence of the hospital," said Kindiki.
He added, “The reason why that happened notwithstanding the presence of a few police officers who were on-site at that time was the determination by the commanding officer that a shootout inside that facility inside that facility would have fatalities on patients and that gave a leeway of the rescue to succeed.”

Kindiki however stated that the suspected bandit has been on the police radar and might be arrested soon.
“We want to confirm that this person has been on the police radar even before the attack, we are on him, we have some leads, and we believe we shall arrest him as soon as possible,” said Kindiki.
