"The bend was sharp. We hit the barrier and the bus rolled three times."

A survivor of a grisly road accident that claimed the lives of ten people on a Wundanyi Mwatate road has opened up on the events that preceded the tragedy.  

Speaking to the media at Moi County Hospital, Taita Taveta County, the survivor alleged that the driver was too intoxicated. 

"The driver had something like a drink (Alcohol). The bend was sharp. We hit the barrier and the bus rolled three times," he said. 

The accident occurred on Saturday night around 2030hrs.

As the bus rolled, a number of the passengers were thrown out (of the bus) through the windows.

He revealed that they were five family members in the car. 

Of the five, his two sisters died on the spot while his brother is currently in the ICU unable even to speak.

The accident also claimed the life of his in-law. 

"My two sisters died on the spot when I tried to pull them from the wreckage of the bus. My brother at the moment is unable to speak. My in-law also perished," he stated.

National Police Service (NPS) report revealed that the accident claimed the lives of 10 people.

 24 people who survived were rushed to Mwatate Sub County and Moi Level 5 hospitals. Out of these, 17 adults, three children, and one infant sustained numerous injuries.
