Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has ordered all Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) staff working from home to report to work on Friday, May 19.

Speaking on Thursday, May 17 during the inauguration of the new KEMSA board at the Embakasi, Nairobi, Nakhumicha said that the staff is one of the issues affecting the institution.

“This institution has undergone very many issues and one of them is related to the staff. I hereby direct the KEMSA CEO to ensure all staff working for KEMSA over 200 of them working from home report to work tomorrow 8 am,” Nakhumicha ordered.

She added,” It is irresponsible to have paid over 200 people for two years while seating at home in the name covid yet we all go to our offices nowadays.”

The Health CS further warned individuals in KEMSA who are tainting the institution saying she will deal with them.

“We have individual culprits who taint the image of this institution. I will not stop at anything even if it means sending home a whole department I am ready to deal with it,” She stated.

This comes days after President William Ruto disbanded the entire KEMSA board and terminated the appointment of Dr. Josephine Mburu as the Principal Secretary of State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards following a tendering scandal for mosquito nets from Global Fund.

“It is notified that His Excellency the President has terminated the appointment of Dr. Josephine Mburu, PhD., as the Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Health & Professional Standards and revoked the appointments of the Chairperson and Members of the Board of Directors of Kenya Medical Supplies Authority,” State House Chief of Staff Felix Koskei stated.

Irungu Nyakera was appointed as the chairperson of the KEMSA board while FCPA Hezbon Oyieko Omollo, Bernard Kipkirui Bett, Dr. Jane Masiga and Jane Nyagaturi Mbatia were named as new KEMSA board members.
