President William Ruto terminated the appointment of the former Health PS on May 15.

Former Health Principal Secretary Josephine Mburu has distanced herself from the Ksh 3.7 billion Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) mosquito net scandal.

Appearing before the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday, June 6, Mburu stated that KEMSA is under the Department of Medical Services, which was formerly headed by PS Peter Tum before he was moved to the Ministry of Sports.

“KEMSA is under medical services, even the regulatory body was under Tum by then,” said Mburu.

The former PS noted that she was involved in the process saying it had started before she got into office.

“I was not involved in the process because it had already started before me. I believe the staff advised me to the best of their ability unless otherwise but I was not involved,” Mburu stated.

She added, “When the advert was put in the public domain is when the head of the malaria program realized there was an omission and came to me. I did not know there was an advert because KEMSA is a different entity.”

Mburu at the same time stated that she learned about her sacking from the media saying she will look for justice to know why she was sacked.

President William Ruto on May 15 terminated the appointment of Mburu and disbanded the entire KEMSA board over irregularities in the tendering process of mosquito nets.
