Babu Owino was charged with conspiracy to commit chaos or subversive activities in relation to the anti-government protests.

The Court has ordered Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino to be escorted to the hospital.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina directed that Babu Owino be taken to hospital and announced that he would deliver his ruling on the bail application on Friday, July 21.

Mr. Onyina directed that self-declared ghetto president Calvin Gaucho and five others, who were charged alongside Babu, be taken to Kileleshwa Police Station and await the ruling on Friday.

The legislator was arrested on Tuesday upon landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport before the wife revealed he was being detained at Wang'uro police station in Kirinyaga County.

He was later driven to Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi County under tight security where he was presented before chief magistrate Lucas Onyina.

The Embakasi East Member of Parliament was charged with conspiracy to commit chaos or subversive activities in relation to the anti-government protests. The legislator denied the charges.

Owino's lawyer Duncan Okatch told the court that Mr. Owino had not eaten or taken water for three days.

Babu Owino's wife Fridah Ongili had earlier pleaded with the government to release the husband following the arrest.

“Let my husband be free as he has done nothing to be arrested. He is unwell and he deserves visitations by family and lawyers,” she pleaded.
